About the Role

The Ministry of Industry, Investment & Commerce (MIIC) is seeking an Assistant Crown Counsel (JLG/LO 2) to join their team. This position is situated within the Policy, Planning, Projects and Research Division. The role is part of the ministry's broader mission as Jamaica's Business Ministry, focusing on organizational development and legal support within their policy and research initiatives. The successful candidate will handle legal matters on behalf of the Ministry, its Agencies, and Departments, playing a critical role in contract management, legislative drafting, and providing legal counsel to support the Ministry's operations and policy objectives. This position requires strong forensic, research, and analytical skills to ensure all actions are legally sound and aligned with government interests.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in negotiations and drafts or peruses employment, engagement and all other contracts on behalf of the Ministry, its Agencies and Departments, ensuring conformity with the related laws and policies and the interest of the Ministry. - Assists in the preparation of drafting instructions and/or drafting orders for signature of the Minister, ensuring all necessary/required consultation and Cabinet Submissions are done and coordinates the Gazetting of the Orders. - Assists with the preparation of all legislative documents required to facilitate the enactment of legislation. - Provides sound legal opinions/advice and briefs and reflects strong forensic skills and research.

Requirements

An Attorney-at-Law licensed to practice in the Courts of Jamaica. Candidates are advised to visit the MIIC careers page for the full list of requirements.
