About the Role
Jamaica AIDS Support for Life (JASL), the largest and longest-serving HIV/AIDS Civil Society Organization in the region, invites applications for two (2) Community Health Navigators for the Kingston and St. Ann chapters.
A Community Health Navigator serves as a health educator, guide, coach, advocate, case-finder, and community resource. They are responsible for engaging in the delivery of HIV prevention and other health services and supporting the treatment, care, and support programme of JASL by creating linkages between clients and JASL’s treatment, care, and social services.
The role involves educating communities about infectious diseases, including their prevention, transmission, and symptoms. Navigators utilize risk communication and engagement strategies, employing a 'One Health' approach to support the populations served.
Responsibilities
Act as a health educator, guide, coach, advocate, and case-finder. Deliver HIV prevention and other health services. Support the treatment, care, and support programme of JASL. Create linkages between clients and JASL’s treatment, care, and social services. Educate communities about infectious diseases (prevention, transmission, and symptoms) through risk communication and engagement using a One Health approach.
Requirements
Must be familiar with the history of HIV/AIDS, other STIs and SRH-related issues. Well read and ability to conduct research on HIV/AIDS, other STIs and SRH-related issues, and the connection between violence and HIV. Must be familiar with the HIV treatment cascade. Must have extensive knowledge of health and social services that are available within their community or areas to which they are assigned. A minimum of seven (7) CSEC subjects including Mathematics & English. Must have three (3) year's experience in programme management for underserved communities. Certificate in an HIV-related programme/Voluntary Counselling & Testing/Provider Initiated Testing & Counselling.
